Hospital Crisis Damning Indictment of Government Failure
Responding to reports of an upcoming Prime Time exposé on University Hospital Limerick, Sinn Féin Councillor Maurice Quinlivan has declared the situation in the hospital as a "damning indictment of government failure."
The UL Hospitals Group has admitted that the hospitals Accident and Emergency Department is "not fit for purpose" following a whistleblower describing conditions there as "absolute hell"
Cllr. Quinlivan went on to say that the programme was "shocking but not surprising".
"The state of our A&E in Dooradoyle has consistently been raised on our canvass. People are outraged across the city to see their loved ones lingering on trolleys while overworked staff struggle to maintain the dignity and health of their patients.
“It has got to the stage where people of all ages are terrified to go to the hospital. What people should remember is that crisis hasn't happened by accident. It has come about as a direct result of gross mismanagement of the health service over many years under both Fianna Fáil and Coalition Governments.
“People are asking me how it can be that a city with two senior government Ministers can have a hospital with consistently the worst figures in the State for patients on trolleys. The answer is that beyond rhetoric and promises this Government has delivered nothing. It's a record of shame for both of our Ministers.”
