The political establishment has met its match in Sinn Féin
"The political establishment has met its match in Sinn Féin. We will deliver for the people of Limerick." - Cllr Maurice Quinlivan
Sinn Féin's General Election Cllr Maurice Quinlivan candidate has declared that "the political establishment has finally met its match in Sinn Féin" and he outlined his party's vision for a better Ireland in which the ordinary people of Limerick would be treated with dignity and respect.
He also make it clear that Sinn Féin wants to be government to bring about progressive and lasting change.
Councillor Quinlivan was speaking at the launch of his election campaign at The Absolute Hotel where he was joined Sinn Féin Deputy Leader Mary Lou McDonald TD.
"The political establishment in Ireland has finally met its match with Sinn Féin and they do not like it one little bit. Our opponents know that we have the vision and the policies required to take them on in the great debate about the future of our country. Indeed, only recently we launched new comprehensive policies on housing, health and childcare.
"Sinn Féin is for an Ireland in which the people living in Limerick have a right to a decent home. We want decent jobs with decent pay - jobs from which people can make a real living. Sinn Féin will not tolerate the continuation of the two-tier health service which has had led to the abysmal conditions to which patients and frontline staff are exposed. We have given firm and uncompromising commitments to scrap water charges, Irish Water and the local property tax.
"Fine Gael, The Labour Party and Fianna Fáil know that Sinn Féin has the determination and ability to really challenge the conservative consensus that has dominated politics in Limerick for decades.
"There is a real appetite amongst the people of this city for that domination to be broken. Increasingly, by way of Sinn Féin articulating our comprehensive and progressive policies, more and more people see us as the genuine alternative. They know that we mean it when we say that we will work to deliver for Limerick City.
"Sinn Féin is proving to be a fresh and vibrant force in the political life of this island and, through the work of our team on Limerick Council, we are making a real difference in the lives of ordinary people here in Limerick.
"This government, and Fianna Fáil before them, has created so much misery and anger. People feel badly let down. Sinn Féin is concentrating on eliminating the gross inequalities, which are glaring in present day Limerick, and which have been brought about by the bad policies of the parties who so routinely attack us.
"In this the centenary year of the 1916 Rising, it is inevitable that the reality of our society today will be subjected to comparison with the ideals of the men and women of the rebellion, especially as set out in the 1916 Proclamation.
“Ordinary people in Limerick see the housing crisis, their neighbour lying on trolleys in hospital corridors, their children emigrating to Australia and they want a different future. They want something better.
“Sinn Féin wants to led an alternative, progressive government so that we can deliver that better future. The people of Limerick can help bring that vision to reality by electing a Sinn Féin TD for this constituency.”
